A Happy Life from the Inside

What’s Behind Happiness?

A happy life is simple to explain because happiness is pure “self-business” or the affair of the inner self. If you cannot be happy without the company of a friend or even a dog, I think you have a problem with yourself. A happy life is a positive emotion, like an engine of joy that is self-propelling. It requires no stimulus from the outside. Does it mean a celebration with yourself alone? No. Christ insisted He was not alone, for the Father was with Him. Observe John 8:29: “And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone.”

A happy life, therefore, is about the assurance that God and His angels are just nearby to help and comfort you. Taught the apostle Paul: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4) Note the emphasis of the phrase, “in the Lord.”

Some Christian teachings have confused many people. The West even labeled Christianity as a mental disorder. Fine. Transgenderism, their new god, is a healthy thing. Is that what they want to teach us? Well, we cannot ram down one’s throat our Christian experience of joy within. Christ said that “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:38) And, in the following verse, John added: “Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive.” (v.39)

A happy life, for a Christian, is always proven by how he experienced with the Holy Spirit in his soul. The born-again Christian is not all by himself, for his God, the Spirit of our Lord Jesus is with him.

Christ Gave Happiness to Our Hearts

I have a question: Will you be happy, for example, that your pocket is lined up with cash because of the death of your loved one? No, you cannot party with blood money in your hands. You cannot rejoice with the tons of gold that you have inherited after your doctor gave you three months of life because of your terminal ailment. You don’t need an external stimulus to be happy, since happiness is the affair of your soul. It is how a happy life works. Even without a happy excitement embracing you, it’s about your feelings for yourself. Isn’t it Christ-given happiness? Wrote the Psalmist in 16:11: “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” (NASB1995) The Path of life is Jesus; He is also the Truth. (John 14:6) That is why Paul said we are COMPLETE in Him. (cf. Col. 2:10)

Did you wonder why thousands of Christians accepted martyrdom rather than life without their faith in Jesus?

Again, we want to reiterate that we have peace and joy in true Christianity. Observe this Word of God:

“Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.” (2 Cor. 12:10, NASB1995; 2 Chron. 9:7, KJV)

A Happy Life and How Peace Governs It

What makes a person happy? Well, happy life is synonymous with a peaceful inner self. Your moral choices are crucial to your tranquility. You can be happy even if you have only one wife compared to the man who has two. Your conscience either strengthens or condemns your inner being. Strive to have peace with yourself and with other people all the time to enjoy your remaining years.

Some people can’t be truly happy with themselves amid their extreme wealth. A man who has a pleasant wife, a good job, and beautiful children can be miserable. Again, it is because true happiness lives inside of you—it starts from within your soul.

A Happy Life vs that Empty-Something in Your Heart?

Did we forget that not a few famous people committed suicide? Why? Well, because of that empty-something that we all inherited from two sinners, Adam and Eve. When God expelled them from Paradise, their guilt complex became their new guidebook on how to navigate this world. As a result, Cain killed his brother, Abel. Sorrow, hatred, chaos, and wars filled the earth. This sinful nature of all humankind causes our natural unhappiness. “Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.” (Gen. 6:11)

That is why Christ said: “[I]n Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” (John 16:33; 14:27)

A happy life calls for true peace in the heart and it is found in Jesus Christ alone, according to the blessed Word of God. Our Lord, therefore, is the Way to have a peaceful and happy life. Received Him into your soul by faith and never ignore Him in your mind and heart.
