True faith produces real trust or dependence upon something or someone. In this piece, let us discuss our sincere trust upon Christ and our systems that form part of our daily life.

Difference Between Faith and Real Trust

But what is the difference between faith and trust? Well, trust or confidence is the act of faith. You may have faith in your father’s swimming ability, for example, but you’ll never trust your life to him in the sea without a life jacket. A dying Christian, so goes one encouraging testimonial, gave a thumb’s up to his parents before gasping his last breath. That’s faith adorned by an unfeigned amenity of trust! Said Job: “Though he [God] slay me, I will trust in him.” Job 13:15.

Faith Comes from Hearing—and Hearing is an Effort

It is stated in Romans 10:17 that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” We may say that since we have heard the Good News of God, we have already experienced believing in Christ. After all, faith has always its seed with the hearing of the Gospel. “Faith comes from hearing.” But without solid trust in Jesus Christ, such an experience would just be the devil’s faith. (cf. James 2:14) Judas heard the Gospel, but his case was just like hearing the rain tapping on the leaves without a ray of interest on its humming note.

Faith alone without real trust or “act of faith” upon Christ is not biblical Christianity.

I have an illustration. A certain police officer warned the drivers that the next bridge is not passable. “Thank you, Sir,” said one driver as he started to U-turn. He had sincere trust in the truth of the information that he had received. So he decided to return home. Yes, real trust is always the result of genuine faith.

Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. James 2:17

Absolute Trust Saves

real trust genuine faith christ

The apostle Paul taught that of the virtues of love, faith, and hope, love is of the highest order. “But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Cor. 13:13)

But concerning the salvation of the soul from the divine judgment, faith, or the belief in the Savior, Jesus Christ, is the greatest level of all forms of human responsibility. “For by grace are ye saved through faith…and faith cometh by hearing.” (cf. Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 10:17) Absolute trust in Christ’s shed blood—at Calvary for the remission of sins—saves.

The Value of Real Trust

As mentioned above, there is a need of an act of faith to be saved from hell. Mere believism is not accepted in heaven, but the genuine trust in the Savior, Jesus Christ, as Forgiver of sins and Redeemer of all humanity.

We also need to exercise faith and real trust as we fasten ourselves with the seatbelt of the social order and expectations. We need to have a firm trust in the school teachers who are molding our children’s future; the engineers who are constructing our bridges; and the software system of the bank handling our online banking needs.

“None of us knows what might happen even the next minute, yet still we go forward. Because we trust. Because we have Faith.” — Paulo Coelho
